automation using ifttt in salesforce

This post is about automation using ifttt in salesforce. Yes not using workflow. It’s more than that. I keep playing around with technologies and got to work on IFTTT about 5 years back. It was a growing kit and we did not have anything directly connecting salesforce with this platform. Recently I was looking at it and saw salesforce applets there. So thought to share something about this. Here we go….

What is IFTTT

IFTTT is a great platform which provides applets to connect and automate many workflows. Applet is an easy to use code that can help you to automate things, without having to code for them. It’s free to be used. Just create a login and start playing around it and I am sure you will love it. You can register at https://ifttt.com. An example of the applet is : when you reach at a geographic location, you can send notifications to some people, You can open your garage automatically when your car is within a certain distance from the gate. Exciting yet ????

applet example

The above image shows an applet, which tells when I upload a photo to a certain folder it will get published to Dropbox automatically.

Some of the existing applets are :

1. If an opportunity was won then create a new task!
2. If Case Closed, Turn Off Light (It needs a Smart thing account)
3. Call a client if their Stock goes up!
4. Track your blood pressure from Withings into Salesforce

to name a few..
