This article is about an IDE : Welkin Suite IDE for Salesforce developers.
As a salesforce developer you might have tried various IDE or development methods, such as :
- Force.com IDE which is a Salesforce IDE pre-built with Eclipse
- Eclipse + force.com plugin
- Notepad ++ (Any other text code editor 🙂 mostly I use these for a quick work)
- Developer Console (It’s been getting better and better)
- Welkin Suite IDE for Salesforce developers (Provided by https://welkinsuite.com)
Welkin Suite IDE Details :
I am just starting to use it and loving it more than Eclipse / Force.com IDE ( Sorry Eclipse lovers, I am one of them as well 🙁 ). This has a cool updated UI, that’s not enough. This has a lot of features which I likes very much.
Earlier I had to install Subclipse to maintain my source code, but this is pre installed in Welkin IDE. Let’s talk about the tool in little more details.
The Start :
You can download a copy for Free from : https://welkinsuite.com/downloads/. It’s available for Windows PCs.
While installing you will notice that it can also install a file difference tool
Once installed you can start the tool and create new project. This is almost same as eclipse but it’s more simpler than that. As in eclipse we will get overwhelmed some times with a much more options. You will see various marks in the image below indicating various work space available for a salesforce developer. You will be able to pull the fresh code from Salesforce as we do in eclipse. We can run all the test classes and see the results. You can also see various versions of the metadata (code) and compare them side by side. Once ready to push it to the org where it is connected you can select build and it will push the code to server. Also we have the deployment option for other orgs. We can use it to develop in our dev orgs and deploy the code to Production org as we do in eclipse.
The conclusion :
This was kind of a quick start for you to start playing around this IDE. Hope you will like it. Remember this is in Beta as of now and has a lot of room to improve and can’t wait to see the final version of the GA.
Hope this was a bit helpful . Please share your thoughts on this tool and let me know if you would like to know more about it. Comments are more than welcome and helpful as well. Also you can suggest topics which you would like to know more.
